This book is an excellant source of information about animal rights. I would say, hands down, that Tom Regan (the author of this book and many others) is one of the leading philosophers involved in the Animal Rights Movement.
This book shines light on nearly all of the issues (not all of the issues) that animal rights fights against, ranging from the suffering of animals within the practices listed in the book to the problems with government policies concerning the treatment of animals.
There are only two minor negatives about this book that I could find: (1) Sometimes, it seems that Regan doesn't give much detail in his writing (most of the time, however, he gives much detail). (2) At times, it seems like he gets too opinionated (but that is because he is very passionate about his beliefs).
I give this book a rating of 4.75 out of 5, just because of the two minor negatives. But, because of the rating system and how it doesn't give you the option of giving 4.75, a I give it 5 out of 5!
