About the author (1985)

Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie, 1930 - Dr. Ogilvie was born September 2, 1930 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Some of his numerous degrees include graduating from Lake Forest College with a Doctor of Divinity and Bachelor of Arts degree; Garrett Theological Seminary with a Master of Theology degree; Moravian College and Seminary and Dickson College with a Doctor of Humanities degree; and Eastern College, George Fox University and Pepperdine University with a Doctor of Law degree. He also attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Ogilvie was a student Pastor at the Gurnee Community Church in Gurnee, Illinois and Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem, PA from 1962-1972 and First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, CA from 1972-1995. He was elected Chaplain of the U.S. Senate on January 24, 1995 until 2003. He was nominated by then Majority Leader Robert Dole. As Chaplain, he opens the Senate each day in prayer, provides spiritual care and counseling for the Senators, their families and staff, which totals more than six thousand people, and leads special Bible study groups, discussion sessions and prayer meetings. He also provides the Senators and their staffs with discussions on spiritual and moral issues, personal counseling, and research on theological and biblical questions. He remained in this role until 2003. He is the author of over 50 inspirational and spiritual books. In 1985 he won the Gold Medallion Book Award for "Making Stress Work For You"
