In 1965, my first year in seminary, this book was assigned by one of my Old Testament professors, Dr. James Muilenburg. Reading it transformed how I saw biblical material. I had been raised a Pentecostal Fundamentalist but didn't like the literal interpretation of the bible because doing so, didn't make sense.
This book states that, largely, the biblical writers did not intend for their stories to be interpreted literally. This book opened me to metaphor, allegory, simile and symbolism.
