User Review  - R.E.Stearns - LibraryThing

I'm an educator, not a programmer, but I found all kinds of practical techniques for thinking and learning in this book that I'm already applying with great success! You'll think about learning and productivity in a whole new way after reading this book. Read full review

Decent book. Presents the material in a friendly, informative way. Even goes so far as to use engineering metaphors where appropriate.
Definitely worth the purchase price.

Not great. Reminds me of a "softskills" course a chancer I used to work with put together. It all sounds great but is so vague that it is useless. Also, there is a glib tone throughout which irritates. Take one of the "maxims" we are handed down:
Act like you're evolved, breathe don't hiss.
I had great hopes for it, and did get one or two good things out of it. But the overall package is lacking.

Excellent book for developing that "meta" element in programming - i.e. your brain :) A very good follow on from The Pragmatic Programmer - From Journeyman to Master.
