Editorial Review - Kirkus - Jane Doe

Meet Joey Pigza's soulmate. Donald Zinkoff can't sit still, can't stop laughing, falls over his own feet, adores school and silly words and his family, is prone to throwing up due to a defective stomach valve, is impervious to peer pressure, and never frets about being perennially last in any competition just as he's last in the alphabet. this book is interesting and good at the same time.Jerry spinelli did a good job of letting the reader feel donalds emotions when he gets bullied.

Who wears a giraffe hat to school on the first day of first grade? Who thinks the word "Jabip" is the funniest thing imaginable? Who risks being frozen to try and find a little girll on a leash named Claudia? Who wants to be a mailman like his dad? Donald Zinkoff, of course! To others, he may be a loser, but in reality he's a funny, loyal, and enthusiastic hero. If only those kids would know what a good friend Zinkoff can be, they'd know that true winners aren't always popular or pretty. Winners are people who are kind, generous, and loyal. They don't even have to have crowds of friends. Does this sound like anyone you know? Of course. Donald Zinkoff, our loyal, sixth-grade hero.
