The Geography of Urban Transportation
Susan Hanson, Genevieve Giuliano
Guilford Press, 2004 - Science - 419 pages
A highly successful text and professional resource, this classic work is now in a fully revised and restructured third edition. Leading geographers and urban planners present the foundational concepts and methodological tools that readers need to understand and engage with today's pressing policy issues. Covered are such key topics as passenger and freight dynamics in the American metropolis; the urban transportation planning process, including the use of GIS; and questions related to public transit, land use, energy, equity, environmental impacts, and more. Updated throughout with a heightened emphasis on policy-and featuring over one hundred maps, charts, and photographs-the third edition contains new chapters on intercity travel and transportation finance. In addition, a new concluding chapter integrates key themes and provides some practical approaches to solving urban transportation problems.

Redundant information; however, many useful concepts and basics regarding the field of transportation. Far too many statistics regarding the history of transportation that can be found on the internet if searched. Much of the data is common sense also if you have looked into transportation or observed it in many of America's urban cities. The explanation of definitions is great especially between terms that are similar.
Taking into account that there are few text books found regarding the subject I give this book a somewhat good rating. I am interested in urban transportation but it was not a text book I wanted to keep because it is data heavy which is pretty much already out of date since it republishes stats no later than 2003 & most dating from 98-02.
If you are student try to obtain some other way or share with classmates rather than purchasing.
