ASM International, 2005 - Corrosion and anti-corrosives - 703 pages
Reflecting the substantial increase in knowledge about corrosion, which "while silent and often subtle, is probably the most significant cause of degradation of society's structures..." (from the preface), the update of ASM's 1987 Metals Handbook on the subject now occupies three volumes. The first (2003) addresses fundamentals, testing, and protection, while the third (2006) will address environments and industries. In this second volume, on materials, editors Cramer and Covino (both of the U.S. Department of Energy) have drawn together contributors from eight countries and have arranged material in three sections on ferrous metals, nonferrous metals and specialty products, and environmental performance of nonmetallic materials (e.g. refractories, ceramics, concrete, protective coatings, and rubber linings). Concluding the handbook are a historical review of the global cost of corrosion; a gallery of corrosion damage, consisting of color photographs, case studies and solutions; and a substantial section of reference information.
