I am an African American 9th grade girl and I am doing a critical thinking paper on this book. I find this book to be very inspirational and refreshing. It paints a vivid paicture of Michelle's family journey from slavery to the White House and all her other struggles in between. I also like how it also shows us youth that our elders had to deal with the same things we struggle with today, some of it is alot harsher than anything we can imagine.I think this book not be labeled as a childen's book, but as an all audience book. I think that everyone of all ages can benefit from reading this book. I really liked it and recommend it to everyone. I am looking for more books like this and any other book that is not afraid to be truthful and tell the world what it was and stilll is to be a black person in this plagued society. If you have any suggestions you can post them. Thanks.
