This has to be one of my favorite books of all time and I guess I have to thank my 12th grade AP English teacher, Mrs. Gamble. The plot in this book is extremely intriguing and the author, Anne Tyler, really captures the hearts of her readers. You get crazy Cody, who is so obsessed with Ezra's success and achievements that it is surprising that he even has a career. Then there is "sweet and clumsy" Ezra who lets people walk all over him, and even seems to help them to do it. Jenny, who is the most detached from the family (besides Beck Tull, of course) has to be in a relationship in order to maintain some stability in her life. And then Pearl. A wrecking tornado that turns into a gentle sea as she grows older, yet not allowing anyone to take away her spark, no matter how ill she gets. Anne Tyler has done a fabulous job embellishing creative writing and I can't wait to read more of her books.
