Review: The Night Circus

Editorial Review - - Norah Piehl

When I was at the BookExpo America publishing convention earlier this year, I kept bumping into the same fancifully attired young people. Dressed in elaborate blackandwhite costumes, they were handing out snacks advertising the forthcoming publication of Erin Morgenstern's THE NIGHT CIRCUS. I had never heard of the author, and when I learned that this was, in fact, her debut novel, I was even more ... Read full review

A while back I did a review of a book with my notes that I took while reading a book. I read Night Circus for book club, and I have decided I’ll make bullet points of all of the stickies I have in my ... Read full review

No words I write are going to do this book justice. It’s a tale about a competition between two young magicians. They have been trained since childhood solely for this competition. Only one will be ... Read full review

An overly long story in which nothing much happens. Confusing as an audiobook, as the story goes back and forth in time. Well-known narrator just about put me to sleep on the highway. His voicing of female characters was not pleasant. Read full review

It sounds impossible, but I rushed through this and dragged it out at the same time. There were times when I couldn't stop listening, but then I'd reach a moment where I felt okay stopping and just ... Read full review

I loved this book! Filled with magic, romance, mystery, suspense, humor...just a great story. Now that I'm finished reading this book, I find myself missing the characters and the circus...wondering what might be happening in their world...I highly recommend this story to everyone. this was one of my most favorite books because it breaks the boundary of your average life and opens up a realm of new possibility's that break what this world can become

All it took was reading the back cover and I was hooked. I knew that I had to read this book as soon as possible. I borrowed it from the library and finished it in two days. I loved every second of it. This is the kind of book one comes across but rarely, and it is remembered forever.
I have read some reviews of people that say there is no plot and that the characters are flat but I don't think that is true. I was intrigued from the very beginning and had a hard time putting the book down for just a little while to eat or sleep.I became very attached to all the characters and the third-person presetn tense was, though confusing in a few places, one of my favorite things about the writing style.
One gets the sense of wonder when stepping into the tents for the first time, smelling that carmel, tasting that chocolate. The color scheme (or lack thereof) was particularly brilliant and I must say it made me even more partial to black and white than I already am.
I cannot get over how much I loved this book. There were a few things that could be improved, like I mentioned before the tense was a little akward at times, but this is the authors first book and as a first I think that it is extremely well done.

great read
