Mr. Barna has done some of the best research on trends among Christians, especially the teenage sector. Barna asserts that the Church is in need of real change in order to survive western societies needs, this is true depending on which tradition you are coming from. Most protestant churches are on the decline precisely because they have tried to assimilate with culture. They have tried to become relevant, and have instead lost the meaning of a truly counter-cultural gospel, and Church. The answer lies in the historical and traditional roots of the Church, and it's sacramental life.

About the author (2001)

George Barna is the president and founder of Barna Research Group. Barna has developed seminars for clients such as The Billy Graham Association, Campus Crusade for Christ, and The Prison Fellowship. His other clients include Prudential, Sothwestern Bell, The Walt Disney Company, and Visa USA. He has also served as a pastor of a southern California church. Barna has written many books on the church and culture including The Habits of Highly Effective Churches, User Friendly Churches, and Marketing the Church. His work has been quoted in Newsweek, Time, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.
