Great Work Vic Cambell

As a native Californian, I moved from Los Angeles to Milton, Florida in junior high. Talk about culture shock! The down home, rural, country, Southern style and the simple pleasures replaced the very latest of everything that LA was. I knew Vic and was in clubs with him. He has TOTALLY captured the fun, the struggles, the attitudes, family dynamics, and the sense of humor and justice I experienced in the people of Santa Rosa County in the late 1960s. Reading this book from my San Diego home years later, I was transformed to a young teen's age of discovery and wonderment with others my same age including Vic and his Chumuckla cousins. The humor and adventure of young teenage boys captured here is timeless and probably the Southern version of what I would have lived in the California version at that time. I was fortuntate enough to trade the Beach Boys and surfing around Hermosa Beach for fishin', farmin', boatin, and huntin' with the likes of Vic in the country. There is a surprise in this book about guys from the same area having a chance meeting in South Viet Nam. Once again, Vic captures a iconic moment in life.

Hello Friends, family and neighbors in Santa Rosa County, Florida and around the world. Probably, you would not be looking at this book unless you know me or you know somebody who knows me or you know somebody who knows somebody who knows me. It is not the kind of book that attracts random readers without an interest in either the region of NW Florida or its people.
The book is not currently in print. I have been AWAY from this region for 40 years in 2010 and at last have returned. The book, interestingly, was written while I was living in New Jersey. I am flattered that sometimes a son or granddaughter of someone I grew up with will meet me and tell me they have read the book. I usually tell them, "I hope to read it one day myself. So far I have simply looked at the pictures". In reading the book, I hope you will appreciate the contributions by the artist, Nancy Akin and writers, Coleman Wade and Dianne Hatfield. The book would be less without their mark.
Sometimes I think I'll pick up some of the stories and expand on them - bring them up to date on what happened to whom in later years; or write entirely new stories. It could happen.
Meanwhile, I wish to gently encourage you to pass the link around to folks you know who might enjoy buying the electronic version and learning some of the flavor of those days and times as well as the place - the very special place of Santa Rosa County (and Chumuckla) and the otherworldly places that come into play in the book - like New Jersey and Germany and Vietnam.
Thank you for your interest.
