Jonathan Livingston Seagull
The timeless spiritual classic and international bestseller by Richard Bach—a fable featuring a seagull learning about life and flight and the notion of self-perfection.
This is a story for people who follow their hearts and make their own rules...people who get special pleasure out of doing something well, even if only for themselves...people who know there's more to this living than meets the eye: they'll be right there with Jonathan, flying higher and faster than ever they dreamed.

I can sympathize with Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
I still have the book with Chinese translation. I bought the book for the purpose of learning English; and the spirit of Jonathan Livingston Seagull always in my mind. As a little girl, "a coal miner's daughter" , we were so poor that my parents had to work for every grain of rice with all the physical strength they had; or borrowed it without knowing we could pay it back.
I am a coal miner's daughter and grown up in a mining town in Taiwan. I was lucky to be able to finish 9th grade of education. From then on, my dream was learning English so I may have better chance to leave Taiwan. My journey from Taiwan to United States about more than 30 years ago was not an easy one. I was lucky I married a teacher who was poor but we both worked hard and read a lot. I did not get a diamond ring from him, but he gave me books.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull overcame the hardship of learning to fly higher so he could get to his dream land. I always have an English-Chinese dictionary with me every where I go.
I have become forgetful, but the name Jonathan Livingston Seagull seems ingrained in my brain cells. The book I valued so much I have kept till today.
This is the book of 20th century!
