The Thirteenth Tribe: The Khazar Empire and Its Heritage
This book traces the history of the ancient Khazar Empire, a major but almost forgotten power in Eastern Europe, which in the Dark Ages converted to Judaism. Khazaria was finally wiped out by the forces of Ghengis Khan, but evidence indicates that the Khazars themselves migrated to Poland and formed the cradle of Western Jewry.

The author appears to promote a plausible theory with a lot of convincing background information, facts and references. It is based on good research. The facts did not change since 1976. One reviewer, J Bel-Goodreads, states in a lengthy and academic sounding review, that new linguistic and genetic findings contradict the theory. Interestingly, the reviewer does not give references to support his statement. Such subjective criticisms with clearly pro-Israel undertones, do not detract from the value of the book. I highly recommend it.
