Walter Schumann has proven himself beyond any doubt that he does not know and posses even one dollar worth of knowledge about gems and healing. His 17th chapter of the book, which is a new addition, in the last edition, is such a huge washout that anyone would die laughing reading his chapter 17. Chapter 1-16 is what you get in any ordinary gem book. Nothing new. But chapter 17 by Walter shows that he has not read Mani Mala Part 1 and 2 published in 1879 by S.M. Tagore, whose last copy was auctioned in US over 6000 dollars ! Surely, poor Walter could not get to read a copy of that book. Or how else the author carelessly makes a passing comment, without any scientific proof or reference that gems have not been found to have any healing power. Forget 1879. Come to 2010. He has not even heard of Dr. Howard Beckman who does gem lamp therapy in the USA! And what about Dr. Benoytosh Bhattacharyya and his book Gem Therapy?? Walter did not read this either. This shows that the author is a desktop writer and not a researcher himself. He writes on page 288 that "Therefore, traditional medicine rejects a therapy with gemstones". Bly me !! From where the heck did this foolish author get this crooked notion. Since when is Western Allopathy a 'traditional' medicine?? Has he not heard about Ayurvedic system of medicine?? I think he has not. Or else how he failed not to consider this more than 3000 year old system of medicine as 'traditional'? He did not feel like widening his narrow views that Ayurvedic medicines make ashes of gemstones (called as pisti) through certain processes and then turns them into pastes for intake orally. Why he could not read Harish Johari or David Frawley on this subject before making such horrible show of poor knowledge??? May be he suffers from the false ego of making himself appear more "scientific" by denigrating olden days sciences by calling them "Middle Ages" and "Antiquity" and Dark Ages" in his book. He should really put a note of apology (or his publishers) for making such anti-cultural racist remarks. Unfortunately, score of American students learning gemology will grow up with this wrong notion because authors like Walter dont like to do any research or they dont want to become responsible authors. Zero stars to the author and his book for misleading people with unresearched, biased and racist remarks in Chapter 17. The author should print an apology in the next run of the book or remove that chapter completely.
