Dietary GuidelinesAbstract: The dietary guidelines of the Texas Children's Hospital which provides care for children from birth to nineteen years are discussed. Specific focus is given to dietary procedures: infant diets, normal diets, standard hospital diets, tube feedings, total parental nutrition, and therapeutic hospital diets. The importance of treating every patient in an individualized manner is emphasized. Additionally, the requirements of growing patients is stressed, with particular attention on the growth and maintenance needs of different body tissues and functions; comparisons are made to adult requirements. Comparative nutrient composition tables of various milk-based, soybean-based and special formulas are included. |
