Indonesian Idioms and Expressions: Colloquial Indonesian at Work
"Indonesian Idioms and Expressions is a collection of Indonesian expressions, including proverbs, slang, quotations and acronyms, that offers a commentary on their origins, as well as insights into Indonesian culture, customs, and history. The book is an informal compendium designed to be both educational and easy to read. There are four parts in the book, and the chapters hit on various linguistic themes, among them wisdom, characters, animals, food, slang, family affairs, and politics. Entries include the expression in Bahasa Indonesia, a translation, an equivalent expression in English, and an explanation if necessary. The idea is to learn about Indonesian through the texture and content of its language, rather than the headlines - often bad ones - that tend to dominate perceptions of the vast country." - back cover.

Great book! Chris Torchia and Lely Djuhari has done a lot of work to dig up this stuff.
Don't buy this book! This guy is a stealer and takes credit for himself. I was really surprised to see this book written by Christopher Torchia. This guy does not have the right to publish this book as the sole author. He wrote on acknowledgment page: "I would like to thank Lely Djuhari, who contributed a large amount of the material in this book." She interviewed dozens of people, researched for many months, and wrote many of the content of this book without getting ONE SINGLE cent or proper credit. Don't think that writing one single line absolves you. This is definitely not proper credit because she started the project with you promising her that you two would be the co- authors of the book. You signed a deal with Periplus without telling her. You did not tell her that the book came out. I am a student of Atmaja University and I was there when she interviewed our professor Anton Moeliono (editor of Kamus Besar Indonesia or the Indonesian Dictionary). He contributed his valuable time to give input to the book for free because of her. Not for you! You have used people … We are all extremely angry that we are starting a ban on the book. Shame on you Christopher Torchia. Were you just hoping that she would not sue you? Yes, she may not sue you because as many Asian journalists she would not have the money to do so but let many people on the Internet know. You are a stealer! Don’t buy this book!
