About the author (1992)

Joseph Schwartz is a training therapist and supervisor at the Bowlby Centre. He is the author of numerous papers on clinical practice, the history of psychoanalysis, and the lack of a role of genetics in mental distress.

McGuinness is an artist, designer and former art editor at the Reader's Digest, the Sunday Times and was involved in the award-winning design of the Independent on Sunday. He is an Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society and has had numerous exhibitions of oils and watercolours.

Appignanesi is editorial director of Icon Books.
