Beautifully written book especially given the context of Marc Bloch's imprisonment.

This is absolutely classic. Not up to the quality of Collingwood. Bloch is definitely pre-Historical revolution, so far as theory goes, but he was a master of historical method and research. An excellent writer. No quotation is so apt as the comparison to the historial to the giant after human flesh!
"The good historian is like the giant of the fairy tale. He knows that wherever he catches the scent of human flesh, there his quarry lies." (p. 22)
