Front Cover
Canadian Wildlife Service, 1994 - Social Science - 59 pages
As part of the 1991 international piping plover census, 11 sites in Newfoundland and four sites in St.-Pierre-et-Miquelon were surveyed in June and July. The Newfoundland census was conducted in areas that had previously been used by nesting plovers as well as in potential nesting areas that contained suitable habitat. A second survey of Big Barasway was conducted in July 1991. The St.-Pierre-et-Miquelon survey was conducted at sites that were used in the past by plovers. Notes were kept on human disturbance such as the presence of roads, off-road vehicles, and people and dog tracks. Natural disturbances such as heavy ice conditions and the presence of predators were also recorded.
