Kyra Petrovskaya Wayne is a descendent of one of Russia's oldest noble families. As a talented stage actress and a convert singer she had her budding career interrupted when she drafted into the army at the outbreak of war between Germany and Russia. In the months that followed she became a military hospital nurse during the siege of Leningrad, a filed nurse at the front lines on the ice of Lake Ladoga and saw action at the front lines as a sniper. She was wounded twice and was awarded three medals. Fluent in several languages, she left the Soviet Union after the war as a war bride of an American diplomat.
