With the tao, it is important to get a good translation.
Selected by Johan Stenebo:
One of the books that has made the most impact on me as a businessman is the Chinese work Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. The title means “the classic book about Tao”. It consists of 81 verses or chapters from the Chinese philosophical tradition and is dated 600 BC. The first time I read Tao was in 2001; I try to return to this book four to five times a year for a more thorough read.
Many of the book’s lessons have given me much food for thought in my career. Among them are that one should focus rather than spread one’s resources; reflect rather than make quick and hasty decisions; adopt simplicity and humility as opposed to a cocky approach.
The text requires attention and reflection in order to digest it fully. However, the payback is immense: pragmatic advice as well as philosophical insights.
