Ancient & Modern Songs of Ireland for Piano presents over 80 Irish folk tunes in a carefully notated format that allows the player to reproduce the sound and feel of the traditional performances. Many pieces include background information, and the book also incorporates biographical sketches and legends which illuminate the history of the music. In choosing the songs for this collection, the author reviewed over a thousand Irish songs, tunes which were born out of war, poverty famine, love or merriment. The selections in this book touch every human emotion represented in Irish music.
