Fifteen years ago this book changed my life, and the lives of every dog I have come in contact with since reading it. Although I was a dog professional with over 20 years of experience in handling all kinds of dogs, this book taught me more about how to modify the behavior of dogs than the myriad of other books, classes and seminars I had taken previously. It is not unreasonable to say that this book has saved the lives of many dogs and undoubtedly also saved many people from being bitten.
Written in easy to understand language, it clearly spells out that what people do, how they handle aggression and other behaviors in their dogs makes a difference and that it is not necessary to be "bigger and badder" in order to have a well behaved dog. Even "tough guys" can learn to be calm, without giving up the spark that attracted us to them in the first place, but that might well prove their undoing and lead to their demise if unchecked.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Can I give it 10 stars?
