About the author (1977)

Hugh Montgomery-Massingberd is instigator and editor of an index covering some ten thousand country houses in Great Britain. He has published numerous books including "Family Seats," "Great British Families," and "Royal Palaces of Europe." He is also a regular contributor to "The Field," "The Spectator," and "Town and Country" among other magazines.
Christopher Simon Sykes specializes in the photography of architecture and interiors, and has written a number of books including "Private Palaces," "Country House Camera," and "Ancient English Houses." His photographs have appeared in many periodicals including "Vogue,"" Vanity Fair," "The World of Interiors," and "House and Garden."
