The Carrière of Carpentras

Front Cover
Littman Library, 1984 - Architecture - 286 pages
This study makes use of much previously unpublished material to trace the history of the Jews of Carpentras, in northern Provence, from the thirteenth century through to modern times. Confined to a small ghetto, the carriere, in the centre of the town, they enjoyed more security than elsewhere in Europe, and gradually developed their own unique way of life.
