I came across this article by chance. Pitchai Packir saibo of Badulla was my great grandfather. His son Latheef Packir saibo was my grandfather who took over the Buisiness in the early 1900's. The Business was not doing too well and my grandfather worked very hard to bring up the business and continues with the stores in the Town of Badulla on Main Street. HE also supplied the tea estates, had hard ware stores transport Buisnes with a fleet of trucks, and petrol stations. He had a department store in Colombo called the Town shop which was located in Main Street.
The Tea estate was owned by my Grandfathers brother Mr Jamal packirSaibo. The Business was not taken care of after the Demise of my grandfather and died a natural death unfortunately.
The Family home which was at 17 Ward Place Badulla referred to as (GLONIA) the street now renamed as UDAYARAJA MAWATHA yet stand there. Our Family home rebuilt by my grandfather Latheef Packirsaibo was acquired by the Inland revenue department in. the 60's reason unknown and the family has not made any effort to claim it back until 2018.Ths home was built by British Engineering firm Edward Reid in the 40's.From my Mother Lareefa Packirsaibo to all her siblings Hussain,Farida,Harisha,Shahal and Jemina and most of the grand children too were born in this family home.We all remember the lovely holidays we would have here with my Grandfather and Grandmother Segary. My Grandfather had left school early to take over his fathers business. He was a very astute businessmen and brought up the business. Review by Dr Zainab OZEER( nee KARIAPPER)
