PREFACE.

THE following memorials are intended to promote acquaintance with a family long celebrated for its piety and cleverness; and were suggested by the continued acceptance given to the published lives of some of its members —the venerable Philip Henry and Matthew Henry, and Mrs. Savage.

For, notwithstanding the other dwellers at Broad Oak are less known than their kindred just named, and the materials for their biography are neither so full nor entertaining, they were all useful Christians, and distinguished alike by their abilities and attainments. They were eminently of
