This textbook is inadequate for use in a university class. The text skips important steps of key derivations, but often dedicates extensive exposition to common, well known, or obvious operations. It may be helpful as a quick reference for someone already familiar with the material from a more thorough source. I suggest Vallis' "Atmospheric and Oceanic Fluid Dynamics: Fundamentals and Large-scale Circulation" as a far superior alternative.
