This is a beautifully written book. It starts off with a history of blacksmithing, before moving on to descriptions and illustrations of the tools of the trade, techniques used in smithing, and finally how to make a wide variety of projects. The projects range from tools for your newly established forge, to farm implements, to house-ware. There is also a section on the forging of weapons (swords, halberds, spears, et cetera).
Alex Bealer's work is a must-have for the aspiring smith, and I would guarantee that even an experienced smith would benefit from the information therein. Anyone interested in history would be remiss to not own this book, as would any welder or machinist curious about how it used to be done.
Beware of this when you buy this book: you might not intend to start a forge, but after reading through, the information on techniques will fester until they burst forth in a glorious celebration of a dead art resurrected.
