Sponge, (Marina tosta) toasted Sponge, Spongia Officinalis of the Pharmacopoeas, inhabits the bottom of the sea and is attached to rock or other solid bodies; chiefly in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, and in those of the East and West Indies.
