Men take too little care of their health. In cases in which they do see a doctor, recent health studies show that they more frequently suffer from serious illness than women. Moreover, once they are sick, their behavior does not contribute to a rapid recovery. Based on the analysis of 7,600 historical letters, the authors of which come from the noble, middle, and lower classes, the author examines whether men also behaved this way in the past, and influenced their behavior. Expectations, which she combined with the state of health between 1800 and 1950, stand as much in the focal point as the central practices of remaining healthy, or in the case of those already sick, of becoming healthy again. The analysis not only considers social status, but also age and marital status. German text.
