If there is one poem in this collection to buy the book for (and I dont think that there is just one), then it is not Skaters as mentioned above, but These Lacustrine Cities. It is Ashbery at his very best, when he is able to get an experience or mood or (eek!) feeling across at the liminal threshold without devolving into too much satire, getting too long-winded, losing his ever-delicate narrative thread, or getting lost in his own wonderful morass.
