It's another night in San Francisco, and Miranda (aka Randy, when she's not dressed like a boy) has hit the streets looking for trouble. She has an eye for gay men in leather, and most nights she's too much of a girl for them. But tonight she meets her match: Jack, who thinks she's hot no matter who she is. This is San Francisco's notorious SOMA of the 1990s - home to dark alleys, tastefully appointed dungeons, hotel penthouses, clubs where gender dissolves and reshapes. In this bygone sexual utopia, Randy/Miranda embraces desires beyond gender and orientation, beyond what she ever thought she could contain... This is a super hot, personally important book with great gender theory slipped in between sex scenes. What a way to learn! Read full review

About the author (2013)

Carol Queen is a writer, speaker, educator and activist with a doctorate in sexology. First as an organizer in the lesbian/gay community, where she helped found one of the first gay youth groups in the United States, and later in the emerging international bisexual community, as a sex worker and a practitioner of alternative sexualities, she teaches and writes from her own experience and that of my communities even as she references academic thought on these subjects.
