The White Horse
"She didn't want to relax; she had to stay on guard because people could turn on you any second.
Even the people who said they loved you..."
When she's not sure where she's headed or what's going to take her there, Raina writes. She fills pages with the hurt and desperation that she can't bring herself to talk about: stories of her survival on and off the street, and of the dangerous heroin addiction that she calls a "pet," or white horse. But when her teacher finds these crumpled scraps of a young girl's life pushed into her hands, she's not sure what to do with them. She'd like to help Raina, but she doesn't know where to start, or if Raina will ever be able to trust anyone again...
