Editorial Review - Kirkus - Jane Doe

An allegorical fantasy in which a group of young people are guided through the universe by Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which and Mrs. What — women who possess supernatural powers. They traverse fictitious regions, meet and face evil and demonstrate courage at the right moment. Religious allusions are secondary to the philosophical struggle designed to yield the meaning of life and one's place on earth. Young ... Read full review

People usually don't know what will happen in the future and don't expect certain events to happen. They never expect such magical things to come their way. This is how Meg Murry feels in the novel, A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle. In A Wrinkle in Time, a midnight visitor escorts Meg, Calvin, and Charles across the barriers of time and space into another world. There are some creatures you would never think of seeing such as a half human, half horse creature, and a huge black shadow that floats around. I think this story is very imaginative and creative for kids and adults. Meg lives with her three brothers and her mom, but Meg's father has been missing for two years. When Meg and her family gets an unexpected visit from Mrs. Whatsit, they also meet Mrs. Which and Mrs. Who. They take Meg, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their new friend Calvin, to rescue Dr. Murry. Meg, Calvin, and Charles discover many different types of creatures they would never think of seeing. What really caught my eye was how Meg was very brave and smart. I liked how she never gave up. Why do you think Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who wanted to help find Meg’s father? How will they find Meg’s father? A Wrinkle In Time is a book that gives you a little mystery, adventure, and fantasy all in one. This is Deanna from The Fast and Furious.

I read this book when I was young and really enjoyed the story behind it. The characters were flawed and lovable. The idea of this story really happening (and to ME instead of Meg) was exciting.
've re-read it a few times as an adult. Each time I do I find something else to love about this book. The science behind it, the relationship between the characters and, as always, the magical ideas it not only puts on paper but inspires within me, never cease to amaze me.
Though not a long read, and certainly not a difficult one, A Wrinkle In Time has remained on the top shelf with the rest of my favorite books.

Imaginative, though not impressive. Maybe it's because I read this book as an adult rather than as a child?
