"The process by which I wrote the poems included in this book requires a brief explanation. For most of the poems, I used the technique of the collagist. This meant creation through destruction, lifting things from one context and dropping them into another, establishing unfamiliar relationships among familiar objects. I generally found the ideas for poems, as the citations at the back of the book attest, in common reading matter - news stories, mystery novels, music blogs, and even lists of book titles. Sometimes I mixed my own language into a poem; other times, I radically altered the intent of the original text through deletions, transpositions, and so on" -- First unnumbered page.
