Much of the new material has been provided by Denis Karczub, who joins Michael as second author for this edition. This book treats both noise and vibration in a single volume, with particular emphasis on wave-mode duality and interactions between sound waves and solid structures. The book is primarily intended as a textbook for senior level undergraduate and graduate courses, but is also a valuable reference for researchers and professionals looking to gain an overview of the field.

About the author (2003)

Michael Norton is involved in humanitarian efforts all around the world, and this book has been adapted for the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. He founded the Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action in 1995 and the UK-based Directory of Social Change. The author of several books, including "The Worldwide Fundraiser's Handbook", Norton lives in London.

Denis G. Karczub is Principal Engineer at SVT - Engineering Consultants. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Western Australia, graduating with honours in 1991, and going on to obtain his PhD in 1997.
