They used to like my simple flowers; and if they have. forgotten their old friend, I hope this one will serve to renew our acquaintance pleasantly. The lines about the honey bird and the bees, in the Adventures Of Jamie And Jeannie, are quoted from the writings of Mr. Thomas Pringle, who composed them m South Africa, for the amusement of some children belonging to the Scotch Colony, with which he was associated. That kind-hearted gentleman and his wife accompanied the Caffer boy to England, and from them I learned much of his history. I The account given by The Boy Of Old Times, is strictly correct. My own father 1* 'was the boy who went to the mill to beg meal, during the war, and was obliged to return home hungry and barefoot, through the snow. The lumbering stage-coach between Boston and New York was the wonder of his childhood; and the Mr. Wilson, who was prayed for when he rode thirty miles, was his father's neighbour.
