A history of Poland in painting |

This book is very interesting, it presents a very unique way to learn the history of a country that has been through such diverse times in a very informative, powerful and heartfelt way. The work of the artists, especially Jan Matejko is particularly fantastic and telling of the times. Through art, one can truly experience the people and the place and observe many parallels in other countries as well as the way history repeats itself in one country itself.
I've just returned from a visit to this country and I think this would have been a great accompaniment, very useful supplementary reading if you want to learn more about this amazing country and it's people. Large beautiful prints and simple, concise and descriptive texts, maybe too short though in some cases, but incites the desire to further explore the history.
Poland seems to be one of those underrated countries on the European map, but it has a deep and dramatic history and is worth the attention.
