Nee le 24 avril 1900, a Wells dans le Somerset, Elizabeth Goudge passa son adolescence a Ely, pres de Cambridge, ou son pere fut nomme directeur d'un college de theologie. Auteur de nombreux romans, de livres pour enfants, et d'une vie romancee de Jesus, elle construit des histoires ou se cotoient beaute et merveilleux. Ce roman lui valut le prestigieux "Carnegie Medal" en 1946. Elizabeth Goudge est decedee le 1er avril 1984
