This book is a combination of a few evidence based treatments, mostly along the cognitive behavioural line, with some tips that seems to have been gleaned from beauty therapists and gym websites, written in a style that makes your average womens' magazines look like Dostoyevsky.
The good doctor, who is female, recommends rejecting friends who are too "negative" - apparently we just have to find a new set of friends somewhere to replace the old ones. She also recommends "girly rituals", painting toenails etc as one way for women to tackle depression. Dr Dosani relates a complaint from a woman who cannot "command attention" in a "corporate environment" due to the dress code and actually recommends that the lady in question "teeter around in an expensive pair of heels" when not at work. I found some of these suggestions ridiculous, even offensive and they simply trivialise a whole range of cultural and gender issues.
What is perhaps most concerning is that the book does not clearly address the fact that some people have serious reasons for their depressive disorders and require urgent expert psychiatric assistance.
