About the author (2003)

Dan Smith has been the director of the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO), and chairman of the board for the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, in London. He is the author of five other books on peace and security issues, several edited volumes, and more than seventy scholarly articles and chapters in anthologies.
