I was expecting a dry historical account of the Puritan church. Instead, I found an entertaining account of the rigors, errors, and triumphs of these early settlers. The book is full of humorous anecdotes, albeit, sometimes a bit too sarcastic. But I loved it!
A few caveats, the author spent too much time on the discussion of the various Psalm Books. But even those chapters brought a smile to my face. I also think the book ends rather abruptly.
The reason for the 4 stars is simply that I have to leave the 5 stars for the really exceptional works. This is a very good book, but not over-the-top good.
