This work is much appreciated but it is still a work in progress. For example, the book references immigration in Maryland and New Jersey but does not give weight to the most extensive immigration which was in the South during the 1700s centered primarily in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida (which is still where the predominant family population resides). John Kirkland and his brother from Scotland in the early 1700's appear to be the focal point for growth in this area. Also, I have found no record of any Kirkland who fought for the North in the Civil War which reflects the fact that this is a Southern family. Further, the name Kirkland has Norwegian Viking roots from the Norse "Kyrkeland" originating from the area settled by the Norse around the Solway Firth between Scotland and England around 800 AD. The family is most associated with the Maxwell clan, whose castle "Caerlaverock" still stands overlooking the Solway Firth. -Rod Kirkland

Dearest Readers: The material in this book is my notes from my research from many sources. The intent of this book is so that descendants of the future would have a basis to help with their research. Lulu gave me a online method of being able to share family history with any family relation that wants it. If I was uncertain about the note, I indicated it. I have researched genealogical records and facts for over 35+ years; and have learned that such information as birth date, death, marriage, land grants, court records, death and burial, children, or any other public information about individuals cannot be copyrighted. The information is public record and anyone can use it to add information and individuals to their family tree. Remember that my books were formatted using Family Tree Maker database software. The book is just created from all my research notes. I do know that all my books have really helped many families connect their ancestors to their families and have received glowing emails and letters from many people that buy my books. I also add new data, update and change information, or add pictures from time to time; so if you want to send me a comment email: . NET'
