About the author (2010)

James has contributed to Lonely Planet books ranging from Middle East to the guide to his native Great Britain, but Africa is his speciality. He has written about the continent (mostly Francophone countries on the other side of the equator to South Africa), for publications including the Guardian, various travel magazines and Lonely Planet's Africa and West Africa. For this gig, he happily ditched his French dictionary and returned to a country he first visited while en route to Benin and Togo to start his first LP assignment. When he's not dodging nefarious mopane-worm pushers in Limpopo's Venda region, he lives in northeast London. James also wrote the Destination South Africa, Lesotho & Swaziland, Getting Started, Itineraries, The Culture, Directory, Transport and Health chapters.
