This book is based on the second International Workshop on Agent Theories, Architectures, and Languages, held in conjunction with the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IJCAI'95 in Montreal, Canada in August 1995.
The 26 papers are revised final versions of the workshop presentations selected from a total of 54 submissions; also included is a comprehensive introduction, a detailed bibliography listing 355 relevant publications, and a subject index. The book is structured into seven sections, reflecting the most current major directions in agent-related research. About the author (1996)

Michael Wooldridge is Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. He has been active in multi-agent systems research since 1989, and has published over 300 articles in the area. His main interests are in the use of formal methods for reasoning about autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. Wooldridge received the ACM Autonomous Agents Research Award in 2006.

Prof. Dr. Jorg P. Muller holds a Chair for Business Information Technology at Technical University of Clausthal. Previously, Jorg was Principal Researcher with Siemens AG, John Wiley & Sons, Zuno Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric, and the German Artificial Intelligence Research Center. He holds a Ph.D. from Saarbrucken University and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Kaiserslautern University. Within the last fifteen years, he has published more than 100 papers on intelligent agents and multi-agent systems, business information systems and distributed computing. His current research interests include technologies for interoperability, model-driven business process automation, and business applications of agent technology, peer-to-peer and grid computing.

Milind Tambe is a Professor of Computer Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). His research is in the area of Artificial Intelligence, specifically agent-based and multi-agent systems. He is a Fellow of the Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and recipient of the Association for Computing Machinery's Autonomous Agents Research Award. He is also the recipient of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation Homeland Security Award, a special commendation given by the Los Angeles International Airport's police from the city of Los Angeles, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering's use-inspired research award, an Okawa Foundation faculty research award, the RoboCup scientific challenge award, the USC Steven B. Sample Teaching and Mentoring award and the ACM recognition of service award.
