In Ramayana,Gugan helped Sri
Raman&co to cross the river by Boat and hosted in Vanavasam. So Sri Ramam wanted to do proud Gugan for his activities. Basicaly Gugan was a Fisherman community. SriRaman made respect to Gugan by putting a Garment on the head of GUGAN. On that occasion GUGAN was called by Sri Raman as"PATTANGATTIYAR ".
