Presenting the thoroughly revised, fully illustrated edition of The Nikon Compendium, updated by the technical editor of Nikon Owner magazine to include all the new Nikon cameras, lenses, and accessories. This is what Nikon enthusiasts have eagerly awaited: the most complete Nikon reference book ever. At almost double the length of the original, the guide describes virtually every Nikon camera ever produced, right up to the wide variety of popular digital models. It aids identification, offers user-friendly tips, explains what system fits with which camera, and discusses what limitations occur when equipment from one generation is married to items from another. Professional and amateur photographers, as well as enthusiasts, collectors, and retailers will want this on their bookshelves.

This is a very nice follow on to the previous compendium. Everything you wanted to know about Nikon stuff. It's true that it does not have the latest digital bodies because products change so quickly. One understands the great range of Nikon's accomplishments from this book.

The book reflects a 2003 copyright date. The DSLR model content is seriously lacking, since a number of the more recent models are missing. For example, the D300 is not there. Nikon DSLR models have been brought out fast. 5 or 6 years out of date equals a significant gap.
Also, the title is a little misleading. The book itself (as opposed to the title) clarifies--Nikon didn't make cameras until 1948, and you won't see a picture of a Nikon camera older than that in the book.
Other than that, I thought it was a good deal at $30 at Barnes and Noble in Oakland, CA. Very substantial, thick, hardbound, glossy paper, sharp high-quality pictures, well-written.
