The Good Soldiers is one of the most touching, heart-wrenching, and inspiring books I've ever read. I finished the book feeling deeply moved. It truly shows what our troops go through for our country, and I've never been more against war than I am now. Even if you're not a fan of books on war, this book is beyond worth reading.

Finkel's a very good writer and reporter, and this feels very real, with no need for novelistic techniques to make it more vivid. Unsurprisingly, it makes me very sad to think of these young
soldiers, shockingly vulnerable to their attackers despite moving through hostile Baghdad wrapped in layers of steel armor and Kevlar, most of whom seem to have wound up there because, raised in limited, constricted worlds, they couldn't think of anything more promising to do. Now they're in a lottery of roadside bombs and snipers, the waste and pain is disgusting, and the brutality is appalling - and we pretend that it's not pointless.
